KOHIMA, AUG 28: The Naga People’s Front (NPF) expressed its profound shock and anguish over the “brutal ambush and cold-blooded killing” of innocent Naga civilians by “suspected Kuki militants” on the morning of August 27, 2026, in Kangpokpi district, Manipur.
The NPF said the “heinous ambush” took place at around 8:30 am between Makui Ashang and Thanamba Naga village along the Imphal-Tamenglong (IT) Road. All the victims, belonging to the Liangmai Naga community, were unarmed innocent civilians.
The NPF recalled that the Nagas are yet to overcome the trauma of six “innocent Nagas” who were abducted on May 13, 2026, and were killed. Justice is still awaited in that case, yet another barbaric incident has occurred.

The NPF unequivocally condemned this “barbaric and cowardly act” targeting innocent civilians in the strongest possible terms. Such repeated attacks and senseless killing of innocent public are highly condemnable and inhumane, said the NPF. Such incidents also raise serious questions about the lapses and failure of the law-enforcing agencies in ensuring the safety and security of common people on a vital lifeline road, the NPF also said.
Targeting innocent civilians can never be justified and such acts of violence only vitiate the atmosphere and derail the quest for peace and normalcy in the region, the NPF stated. The Naga People’s Front then demanded safety and security for all Naga people wherever they reside. The party urged both the Government of Manipur and the Government of India to ensure adequate security measures, especially along vulnerable stretches inhabited by Nagas.
The party further demanded that the perpetrators of this dastardly crime be immediately identified, arrested and brought to justice as per the law of the land without any delay, and that befitting justice be delivered to the victims.
Meanwhile, the NPF conveyed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family members of the victims in this hour of grief and sorrow and prays for the departed souls to rest in eternal peace.
