Kohima: The central team of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) arrived this evening at Shilloi Lake ahead of a public protest rally against the Free Movement Regime at Avakhung ITC in Phek district of Nagaland on April 29.

The rally is being jointly organised by the Phokhungri Area Public Organisation (PAPO) and the Naga People’s Front (NPF) to voice strong opposition against the “proposed scrapping” of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and the construction of border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border.

The central team of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), led by MLA and Secretary General Achumbemo Kikon, arrived at Shilloi Lake this evening “after a challenging journey towards Avakhung International Trade Centre (ITC),” a statement from the NPF said today. Despite encountering minor mudslides along the route due to recent rains, the NPF team cleared the way, and there were no major disruptions, it also stated.

Preparations at Avakhung ITC are in full swing, with large numbers of people and public leaders expected to gather for the protest.

Several prominent leaders and community representatives will deliver speeches.

The highlight of the event will be a keynote speech by MLA and NPF Secretary General Achumbemo Kikon, who is expected to strongly advocate for the protection of traditional land rights and oppose any moves undermining indigenous border communities.

“With growing concerns among the public over border policies, the rally is anticipated to be a significant demonstration of unity and resistance against measures that are perceived as detrimental to traditional livelihoods and inter-community ties across the border,” the NPF added.
