Ukhrul, Mar 10: The Kukis ought to allow free movement along the national highways in Manipur, said Manipur unit president of National People’s Party (NPP), Yumnam Joykumar who told reporters at the party office at Naoremthong in Imphal on Sunday. He condemned the Kuki community for defying the call by Union Home Minister Amit Shah for free movement of all people on all roads across Manipur from March 8.
He also said the Kukis may leave Manipur for Myanmar, which is their origin, or elsewhere where they can do ‘anything’ without restrictions, said the Manipur unit of National People’s Party (NPP).
Manipur is a part of the Union of India and hence all citizens living in the hills and the valley of the state have to enjoy equal fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution, Joykumar asserted.

Recalling that on March 1, Amit Shah during a meeting in New Delhi announced free movement of all people on roads in Manipur from Saturday, the NPP leader said violence erupted in Kuki areas amid the free movement.
Joykumar said stopping the free movement by the Kuki community was an illegal action and asked if the Kukis think that their settlements do not belong to India.
The Manipur NPP chief appealed to the Kuki community to allow free movement and refrain from further violence, saying such obstruction is of no benefit to them.
