Imphal: National president of National People’s Party (NPP) and Meghalaya chief minister, Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday said that the party’s candidatures for the upcoming assembly poll of Manipur will be finalized soon.
Sangma on his three-day visit in Manipur took part in election rallies of the party at various assembly constituencies. The 60-seat Manipur Legislative Assembly will go to poll in the early part of next year.
Before concluding his three-day visit, the Meghalaya chief minister attended a felicitation function of intending candidates of various assembly constituencies who joined the NPP formally held at Patsoi in Imphal West district today.
Four intending candidates of the upcoming assembly polls were felicitated by NPP Manipur unit.

Speaking on the occasion, Sangma said that NPP will finalize the list of candidates of the party at the earliest possible time. “The central office of NPP will be finalizing and notifying the election committee (of NPP) in the next couple of days”, he said.
While claiming that there is an increasing popularity of the party in the state, Sangma said that the party leaders should not leave any stone unturned to take the opportunity.
Seeing the overwhelming support from the people to the party, Sangma said, “I hope the party will emerge as the single largest party after the elections”.
Informing that a big youth conference of the party which will be organized in Manipur on December 10, he said that he will be visiting again to attend the occasion.
NPP leaders from other northeast states are also participating in the congregation which will discuss the problems and prospects of youths of the region in general and Manipur in particular, Sangma said.
