UKHRUL: The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) has strongly condemned the ‘ongoing harassment’ of civilians by Indian security forces at TM Kasom village, Makuilongdi, and other nearby areas. It has also accused the security forces of violating ceasefire ground rules.

The NSCN-IM alleges that security forces have conducted unauthorized raids and door-to-door searches without judicial warrants, militarized residential areas, and abducted four innocent civilians. They describe these actions as serious violations of fundamental human rights. “Civilians caught in the midst of any conflict, justified or not, deserve protection, not persecution,” they stated.
Additionally, the NSCN-IM has expressed concerns that the Indian security forces are violating the mutually agreed Ceasefire Ground Rules at a rate that exceeds the MIP and NSCN/GPRN’s ability to draft a condemnation note. “The recent military activities of the Indian armed forces in Naga areas are alarming; this militarization has turned peaceful villages into zones of fear and control. The Indian security forces should be reminded that the agreed Ceasefire Ground Rules are a bilateral agreement, not a mandate for them to act on their own whims,” the statement asserted.

The NSCN-IM emphasized that these violations are documented and constitute a serious breach of trust, undermining the credibility of ongoing peace talks. “It is high time the Government of India made its intentions clear to the world—whether they want to pursue peace through force or through genuine dialogue. Regardless, the Naga people remain resolutely committed to go the distance, at all costs,” they declared.
Furthermore, the NSCN-IM urges the Government of India to conduct an immediate and independent investigation into the Ceasefire Ground Rules, strictly adhere to the terms of the Ceasefire Agreement, and allow for international and independent human rights monitoring in affected areas.

“The pursuit of a lasting, honorable solution to the Indo-Naga political issue should be based on trust and respect for each other’s differences rather than on the barrel of a gun,” the press note concluded.
