UKHRUL/SENAPATI: The Nagaland Tribal Hohos Coordination Committee (NTHCC) on Tuesday expressed solidarity with the Naga people in Manipur during a meeting with the United Naga Council (UNC) at Tahamzam (Senapati), reaffirming its support for the ongoing demand for justice for the six Naga men who were killed in Manipur last month.

The 40 member NTHCC delegation was led by its convenor, Thejao Veihnou, who is also the president of the Angami Public Organisation. According to sources, the delegation visited the UNC to stand in solidarity with the Nagas in Manipur during what it described as a difficult period and to extend support to the Naga community’s ongoing struggle and charter of demands arising from the killing of the six Naga men.

Thejao Veihnou said, “It is unfortunate that the Kukis, who are nomadic in nature, came to this part of the region as mercenaries and are now attempting to establish a homeland by driving out the indigenous people.” He further stated, “The Nagas are talking about peaceful coexistence, which is the right approach.”

The meeting comes amid continuing protests and public mobilisation across Naga-inhabited areas following the June killings, with several Naga organisations demanding justice, accountability, and stronger security measures.

Earlier, on July 9, Veihnou had addressed a candlelight vigil organised by the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) at Phoolbari Junction in Kohima to honour the six victims. During his address, he made a strong statement on the historical presence of Kukis in Naga areas, saying, “Kukis came to Naga territory as mercenaries.”

Thejao Veihnou’s remarks were made while paying tribute to the six Naga men killed in Manipur and reiterating support for the movement seeking justice for the victims.

The solidarity visit is expected to further strengthen coordination between Naga civil society organisations in Nagaland and Manipur as they continue to press for justice and pursue their collective demands.
