NSCN-YA Condemns Indian Army Drone Attacks in Myanmar, Urges UNHRC to Act

UKHRUL: The National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Yung Aung (NSCN-YA) has condemned the alleged continued aerial terrorism by the Indian Army targeting Naga civilians, including the drone attack at Khammoi village in Myanmar on April 6, 2026. Also, it has urged the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to act with urgency to ensure India’s crimes are investigated and held to account.

In a press statement issued by Col. Retd. Joseph, MIP, NSCN/GPRN YA, stated that the group has observed with increasing concern about incidents of threats and violence perpetrated by GOl and its armed forces in the Naga country in the past few days.

Condemning the act strongly, the NSCN YA stated the 6 April 2026 drone attack at Khammoi village in Naga Self-Administered Zone (Myanmar) once again exposed the ill-mentality of a nation that proudly claims to be the world’s largest democracy. “These drone attacks are part of a systematic campaign to terrorize Nagas and undermine their basic human values, meaning Naga civilians are no longer safe even inside their own houses. These attacks on unarmed civilians not only threaten the core principles of the United Nations but also devastate Naga communities, deepening an already dire humanitarian crisis of Nagas in Myanmar,” it said.

The Naga Army also strongly denounces the recent notification issued by India’s Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal extending another five-year ban on the NSCN/GPRN. It stated that by using the lens of ‘terrorism’ and proscribing the NSCN/GPRN as a terrorist organisation, India has obscured the fact that its atrocities against the Nagas, including thousands of innocent civilians killed over the decades, have far exceeded the NSCN/GPRN’s so-called Unlawful activities.

India has consistently weaponized the AFSPA, UAPA, and other draconian laws to criminalize the Naga resistance movement and terrorize the Naga public, thereby committing serious human rights violations. Ironically, this same country is a signatory to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and recently re-elected to the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the 2026- 2028 term,” it said.

Further, the NSCN-YA stated that though India has positioned itself as a staunch defender and promoter of International human rights at the UNHRC, violence, abuses, and racial discrimination are daily events in India’s occupied North-east and Kashmir. It also added that India is on the brink of becoming a failed state due to its totalitarian and abusive nature, deeming it unfit to become a UNHRC member.

The NSCN/GPRN has appealed to the International community to act in line with UN principles and act with urgency to ensure India’s crimes are investigated and held to account. “We further strongly call on all the Member States to the UNHRC to review India’s Human Rights record and ensure that the long-term integrity and credibility of the UNHRC itself are not sacrificed to the political influence and expediency of a rogue member like India,” it added.

Furthermore, the NSCN-YA stated that even in the absence of significant global support, the Naga nation has steadfastly resisted the colonial forces of both India and Myanmar for decades, and is still ready to fight until the last drop of blood for its God-given freedom. “NSCN/GPRN remained fully committed to the defence of our land and the protection of our people. We will never bow down to our oppressors and will never be intimidated by their military might,” it stated, adding, “Even in our darkest moments, Nagas held onto a glimmer of hope that one day the United Nations would live up to its founding principles and be a true beacon of freedom for oppressed people all around the world.”
