UKHRUL: The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has expressed concern over the alleged delay in law enforcement action against Reny Wilfred, an IAS officer accused in multiple allegations of sexual harassment.

In a letter addressed to the Director General of Police, the organisation stated that several female employees who worked under Wilfred during his tenure as Joint Secretary of the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) had accused him of sexual harassment and inappropriate conduct. According to the NSF, although a chargesheet has reportedly been filed in the case, there has been little visible progress in translating the legal findings into action.

The federation observed that the allegations do not appear to be an isolated incident and warned that delays in pursuing such cases send a troubling message to survivors of workplace harassment while also risking erosion of public trust in institutional accountability. While acknowledging that the officer has been placed under suspension following an order issued on May 21 2025, the organisation expressed concern over the absence of clear progress in disciplinary proceedings as well as the advancement of the criminal process.

In its representation, the NSF further noted that prolonged delays in pursuing the case may add to the distress faced by the complainants, who had already come forward despite social and emotional challenges.

The organisation also acknowledged reports that the accused officer has sought legal remedies in court regarding the chargesheets filed against him. However, it emphasised that due process should not lead to undue delay in the delivery of justice, particularly in cases involving allegations of sexual harassment.

Urging the police authorities to ensure that the matter is handled with urgency and seriousness, the NSF called on the authorities to proceed in accordance with the law while cautioning against any attempts to interfere with the course of investigation.

“In the interest of justice, institutional credibility, and the safety and dignity of women in public service, we urge your office to act swiftly and decisively,” the NSF stated.
