UKHRUL: The Naga Village Guard (NVG), Central Command, has issued a clarification regarding the reported confrontation between armed Kuki and Naga groups in Mullam and Sinakeithei areas in Ukhrul District, Manipur, today.
In their statement, the NVG refutes the claims made by the Kukis concerning reports of an attack on Mullam village by Tangkhul Naga volunteers. The NVG explained that the Naga Village Guards stationed between Sinakeithei and Sirarakhong, near Mullam, were on patrol this morning due to repeated attacks on Sinakeithei village. They also noted ongoing tactical movements by Kuki armed cadres under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement.

During this patrol, the Naga Village Guards came under heavy fire from Kuki armed cadres operating under the SoO. The attack resulted in the death of Horshokmi Jamang, aged 29, son of Lungshim Jamang from Chatric Khullen village, Kamjong.
Four other volunteers were severely injured in the incident. The injured include Ramshang Kamodang (32) from Nambisha, who sustained an injury to his chin; Horrei Khokyar (26) from Kalhang, who suffered shrapnel wounds to the back of his head; Shonshok Mahung (36) from Hungpung, who was shot in the thigh; and Ramnganing Mahon (34) from Ngainga, who was wounded in the leg.

The NVG stated that they retaliated against the attackers to defend themselves, adding that the volunteers later returned to their camps and took a defensive position.
