UKHRUL: The Kuki Organisation for Human Rights (KOHUR) has alleged a premeditated attack on Mullam village, claiming that Tangkhul militants targeted unarmed civilians on Friday. The Naga Village Guard (NVG), Central Command, has, however, refuted these claims, denying any involvement in the alleged assault.
According to KOHUR, attackers set houses ablaze, injured several villagers including women and children. Two Kuki village volunteers on duty were also killed. It further stated that villagers defended themselves using licensed hunting arms and, in the process, killed one of the alleged assailants.
KOHUR stated that the incident is “not an isolated occurrence” but part of a continuing pattern of aggression against Kuki-Zo communities. It described the alleged attack as a grave violation of the right to life, the right to dwell in peace, and fundamental human rights guaranteed under the Constitution of India and international human rights law.
KOHUR has demanded the immediate registration of an FIR and a transparent, time-bound investigation into the incident. It has called for the identification, arrest, and prosecution of all perpetrators, conspirators, and financiers of what it terms a “heinous crime” under applicable criminal and anti-terror laws in India. It has also urged the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces in Mullam, Shongphal, and other vulnerable Kuki villages along the Kuki–Naga periphery to prevent further attacks.
Additionally, KOHUR has sought immediate medical treatment and ex gratia compensation for all injured civilians, as well as adequate compensation and recognition as martyrs for the deceased Kuki village volunteers. It has further demanded full reconstruction and restitution of the destroyed houses, along with rehabilitation support for displaced families.
The organisation also expressed solidarity with those affected, stating that it “stands in absolute solidarity with the grieving families, the injured, and the brave villagers of Mullam and Shongphal who defended their homes.” It further paid tribute to the two village volunteers who lost their lives.
KOHUR also called upon the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the Ministry of Home Affairs, and national and international human rights organisations, along with civil society and the media, to take urgent cognisance of the incident. It stated that “the silence of the State in the face of such repeated atrocities is untenable” and asserted that justice must be “swift, visible, and uncompromising.”

Responding to these allegations, the NVG stated that its personnel were stationed between Sinakeithei and Sirarakhong, near Mullam, and were conducting patrol duties following repeated attacks on Sinakeithei village and the alleged movement of Kuki armed cadres operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement.
The NVG claimed that during the patrol, its members came under heavy fire from alleged Kuki armed cadres under the SoO, resulting in the death of Horshokmi Jamang (29) on the spot and leaving four other volunteers seriously injured.
The injured have been identified as Ramshang Kamodang (32), Horrei Khokyar (26), Shonshok Mahung (36), and Ramnganing Mahon (34). Mahung and Kamodang, who sustained critical injuries, have been airlifted to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, for further treatment.
