UKHRUL: The Naga Women’s Union (NWU) has raised serious concern over a series of alleged attacks on Naga villages in Ukhrul district and Senapati district, while also accusing security forces of high-handedness in the affected areas.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the NWU said villages including Litan, Sinakeithei, S. Laho Sharkaphung and Thoyee in Ukhrul, and Ireng, K. Lungwiram, Waphon Inthan and Thonglang in Senapati district have come under repeated attacks, allegedly by Kuki armed groups, including those under Suspension of Operations (SoO).
The NWU questioned the response of the authorities, stating that such incidents have occurred despite the presence of heavy security deployment in the state.

At the same time, the Union alleged that central forces deployed in the region have used excessive force in civilian areas. It said villagers, instead of being protected, are facing intimidation and physical assault, creating fear and raising concerns over human rights violations.
The statement also highlighted the impact on women, stating that Naga women—who traditionally play a role in safeguarding their communities—are being subjected to intimidation. It alleged that force has been used against women and civilians, warning that such actions could further escalate tensions on the ground.
The NWU specifically condemned an incident at S. Laho (Leingangching) on April 7, where women were reportedly assaulted, and pointed to similar instances of aggressive conduct in other affected villages.

Calling for restraint, the Naga Women Union urged security forces to respect the dignity of women and local customary practices, including the significance of women-led peacekeeping traditions.
It further called on both the state and central governments to take action against personnel involved in alleged assaults, ensure discipline among security forces, and address the situation with seriousness to prevent further escalation.
