O Ibobi: ‘BJP-led Govt launches schemes every alternate day and do not implement’

Imphal: Former Manipur chief minister O Ibobi Singh today said that the BJP led government has not done anything worthwhile for the people. “Except renaming the schemes launched during Congress’ rule what had BJP governments at the Centre as well as in the state done so far?” The former Manipur chief minister asked. At the same time, the three time former chief minister also mocked the BJP governments at the Centre and in the state saying that every alternate day they launch schemes and do nothing to implement them.

Addressing a function at Tabungkhong in Imphal West district, Ibobi said that to serve the people, sacrifice is the foremost important and this quality is lacking among the leaders of the saffron party. “Whether the welfare schemes launched by the state government reach the actual beneficiaries or not would be known after the upcoming general elections to the state Assembly”, he said.

The former chief minister also said that the National Food Security Scheme and MGNREGS were introduced and implemented by the then Congress led UPA government by passing Acts in the Parliament, Ibobi recalled. The National Food Security Act (NFSA) was implemented to ensure no poor family across the country left starved while MGNREGA is for providing jobs to the poor and jobless families. Both the schemes were for the upliftment of the living standard of the poor and underprivileged families across the country, he also said.

Ibobi then said that the time has come for the people to decide whether the BJP government is better than the previous Congress government.

Attending the function, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president, N Loken criticized the BJP-led coalition government. He alleged that only the people in the government and leaders of the BJP claimed that the government is people oriented. “The present government is doing developmental works only on paper and nothing on the ground,” he also alleged. “In a democratic, people have to decide which party is better and works for the welfare of the people,” the Congress leader also said.
