An elaborate consultative meeting on Luirim GI tag was convened on Saturday, July 4, chaired by the Director of the Directorate of Handloom & Textiles.
The Tangkhul Naga Long, the apex body President along with Tangkhul Shanao Long, Tangkhul Wungnao Long, Tangkhul Lawyers Association and well wishers were part of the meeting.

Dr. Sinalei Khayi, an authority on Naga customs presented a well researched historical facts that supports Tangkhul tribe ownership of Luirim, also called Ruirim. Dr. Achan Mungleng, a well respected scholar in the field of Institution building, peace activism and research, and Sr. Advocate Vakham Zimik made key remarks about Luirim.
Controversy over the ownership of the Tangkhul traditional shawl Luirim, an exclusive men’s wear and a royal attire recently made news headline which carried unusual interest in the state and national media outlets.
