Public Meeting at Litan Police Station; Damage to 24 Properties

UKHRUL: A public meeting was held at Litan Police Station to assess the extent of damage caused during the recent unrest in the area.

As per ground verification, a total of 24 houses were burnt, of which 21 belonged to members of the Tangkhul Naga community and 3 to the Kuki community.

Several senior leaders, civil and police officials, and representatives of community organisations attended the meeting. Those present included the Presidents of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL) and Katho Katamnao Long, the General Commanding Officer of the Assam Rifles, Ukhrul MLA, BJP State Vice President, Deputy Chief Minister Y. Dikho, Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner, SDO, SDC, Additional Superintendent of Police, among other officials.

According to the verification report, the houses and structures damaged or destroyed belonged to Khanringpam Vashum, Sejam Jim, Blessing Horam, Thanmihor Ngakang, Loken Kasar, Shangreikhai V.S., Tuireising Kasar (Pharmacy), H. Sellynao, Maras, V. Cliff (including a gypsy vehicle), and V. Thanmila, who shared a building but resided on different floors.

Other affected properties included those L. Samson (including a Maruti van), Ramyen Kasar, K. Rocky, Shimreingam Rimai, Anonemos Jajo, Wungshim Kasar, Lamthang Baite, and Yamthang Baite.

In addition, PWD quarters were also set on fire, with residences belonging to Ngahor Ngalung, Tuireising Kasar, Alun Baite, and another government quarter reported as damaged. The verification process was carried out to document losses accurately.

The meeting concluded with both communities calling for peace and understanding.

Describing the meeting as productive, the Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho said, “The meeting was fruitful. Both sides want peace and harmony. The Centre will try its best to bring normalcy. No arrests have been made as of now, but the culprits will be arrested.”

“We want and need peace, but one has to know who the land owner is,” the President of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) Sword Vashum added.
