Imphal: A jawan of the Border Security Force (BSF) sustained a bullet injury on his left shoulder while repelling armed attacks in Sugnu area of Manipur’s Kakching District Saturday morning.
The injured BSF jawan is identified as a 45-year-old, Som Dutt from Himachal Pradesh. He is the head constable of BSF 136th Battalion Delta company posted at Sugnu Higher Secondary School. The injured BSF jawan was first rushed to Sugnu Community Health Centre and later taken to a hospital in Imphal. He is the second BSF jawan to have sustained bullet injury in the area. On Thursday morning, another jawan of the BSF 136 Battalion D’COY sustained bullet injuries on his stomach.

On Friday night around 8:30PM, armed men from Churachandpur District reportedly launched the attack from hill slopes using sophisticated weapons and bombs. Sounds of gunshots and bombings echoed across Sugnu area the entire night with firing and cross-firing between armed groups, state and central forces. Few houses were damaged in the bomb attack.
Sugnu MLA K. Ranjit along with top police officials took stock of the situation and extended solidarity with the panic stricken villagers. A bombshell reportedly landed in the courtyard next to a house in which the local MLA was stationed.
Locals collected the splinters of metal from the shelling.

Firing has been reported from Sugnu area of Kakching District for the past four consecutive days.
The area which remained relatively peaceful for many days came under attack on Wednesday wee hours when suspected armed Kuki assailants reportedly rained bombs and bullets towards Sugnu around 4 am.

The attack was retaliated by a combined team of BSF, State forces. Since then, heavy firing and bombing incidents continued in the area with a brief lull on Friday afternoon.
State and Central security forces are taking necessary measures to bring the situation under control.
