One Day Awareness Campaign on Drug Abuse held in Ukhrul

Ukhrul: Jointly organised by DAPCU, Ukhrul Police, WCAD, LWS/SPYM, PASDO, CARE and SNM, a one-day awareness campaign on drug abuse was held on Saturday at Maringmi Memorial School, Phungreitang, Ukhrul, under the theme “End It Now.”

SP of Ukhrul, Ningshem Vashum, CMO of Ukhrul, Dr Kapangring A Shimray and DACO of Ukhrul, Dr Yuithingla Vashum were the resource persons for the day.

Speaking at the occasion, Ningshem Vashum stated that “many precious lives including the lives of many promising youngsters have been taken away by drugs in the 80s and HIV/AIDS in the 90s. Implored the gathering, especially the young students to shy away from drugs and other intoxicants.”

President of WCAD, Ngamreiwung Horam while delivering the opening remarks stated that “the campaign on drug abuse is being organised targeting the students of Ukhrul district. We have been campaigning at various places in Ukhrul district to create awareness among the masses. The campaign on drug abuse which kicked-start in October 2023 will wind up on 19 November 2023.”

As part of the drug abuse awareness campaign, activities have included organizing a “street show” with Tangkhul artists, as well as campaigns held at churches and village levels.
