One held with brown sugar worth Rs. 5.25 Cr in Tengnoupal dist

Imphal: A man was arrested with 2.625 kg of brown sugar worth over Rs 5.25 crore in the international market in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district.

Police said that the man was arrested during a joint operation by Tengnoupal district police and 20 Assam Rifles near the divisional forest office at the district headquarters Wednesday, around 2 pm.

The joint team conducted a check to a Bolero (vehicle) coming from Moreh side and intercepted 56 soap cases of brown sugar weighing 2.625 kg including the weight of the soap cases.

The seized drugs would be worth around Rs 5.25 crore in the international market, the police further said.

Following the detection of the contraband drugs, the security force personnel detained the driver of the vehicle later identified as Lenminpao (35) of Churachandpur district. He was handed over to Tengnoupal police station along with the seized drugs, the police added.
