Oting village incident: One soldier succumbs, PRO (Def) Kohima, GoI issues statement

Kohima: A press statement issued by Press Information Bureau (Defence Wing) Government of India on Sunday has stated that the incident that took place on Saturday evening at Oting village under Mon district was “based on credible intelligence of likely movement of insurgents, a specific operation was planned to be conducted in the area of Tiru, Mon District, Nagaland”.

The statement issued by Lt Col Sumit K Sharma further stated that the “Incident and its aftermath is deeply regretted”.

“The cause of the unfortunate loss of lives is being investigated at the highest level and appropriate action will be taken as per the course of law. The security forces have suffered severe injuries in the incident including one soldier who succumbed to the injuries,” the statement added.

Till the filing of this report 13 deaths from Mon district have been confirmed by sources.

Union Home Minister, Amit Shah took to twitter and expressed anguish over the incident at Nagaland’s Oting village, terming it, “unfortunate”.
