UKHRUL, SEP 11: Palliative care services in Chandel district were reviewed and strengthened through a supervision and home-visit programme conducted on Thursday under the National Programme for Palliative Care (NPPC).
The programme was led by Dr. L. Tilakeswari Devi, state nodal officer, NPPC, along with Dr. Joysee Maring, district nodal officer-NPPC, Dr. Serbum Shakchung Moyon, medical superintendent, District Hospital, Chandel, and members of the district palliative care team.
The team visited patients admitted to the 10-bedded Palliative Care Unit at District Hospital, Chandel, as well as patients receiving home-based palliative care.

Home-based palliative care is being provided through community health officers (CHOs) at eight Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, with regular visits by auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs), accredited social health activists (ASHAs) and medical officers (MOs).
The programme also provides caregiver training and support, including air mattresses, wheelchairs and essential medicines to patients in need.
The Government of Manipur is implementing both hospital-based and home-based palliative care services in the district. The 10-bedded unit at District Hospital, Chandel provides essential medicines, supportive care, counselling and other services to patients requiring long-term care.
The initiative aims to ensure that patients and their families receive accessible and dignified supportive care within their homes and communities.
