Passenger Winger accident in Senapati; 2 killed, 10 injured

Senapati: In a fateful accident that occurred at a place in between Mt. Zion College and Khabung Karong, two persons died on the spot and 10 sustained injuries after a passenger Winger fell into a river in National Highway-2.

The incident reportedly happened after the Winger hit a local Alto car. The 10 injured were rushed to the District Hospital, Senapati. Two passengers in the fateful accident were unhurt despite the passenger vehicle fell over 100 feet below the highway.

According to the district Police, the deceased were later identified as Munna Kumar Sharma, aged about 24 years, S/o Sadhu Sharma of Rampur Barahan Tola Bhawanipur, Uttar Pradesh and Munna Kumar, aged about 36 years, S/o Ram Sebak Sahni, Tetri, Ward-7, Dandari Tetri, Begusarai of Bihar.

With swift rescue team from local villagers of Kathikho Karong, Khabung Karong, Mao Karong, Poumai Naga Students Union (PNTM) and Senapati District Students Association, volunteers dived under the water and fished out the two deceased.

The president of PNTM appreciated the excavator (JCB) used in the rescue process to bring out the deceased from the river to the main road. The two deceased were later picked up by Senapati Police to drop the mortal remains in Imphal.

The ill fated winger bore registration No. MN06B/1338 and the Alto car with MN05A/3566. Both occupants of the Alto car also reportedly sustained injuries.
