Police arrests PLA member involved in non-Manipuri killing

Imphal: A PLA cadre was among two persons arrested by police in Manipur’s Imphal East district in connection with a case related with a recent killing of one non-Manipur in the district.

The two persons were arrested in two separate operations by a team of Andro police station investigating into a case related with the shooting death of a non-Manipuri grocery hawker on July 8 last, police said.

The arrested PLA cadre has been identified as Hijam Sanatomba Singh (25) while the other man allegedly assisting the cadre in targeting non-Manipuris in Andro area was identified as Hijam Itomba (32).

The Andro police team led by its OC arrested a PLA cadre yesterday evening. He was directly involved in the shooting to death of a non-Manipuri at Uchol Chingjin under Andro police station on July 8 last, the police also said.

The other person arrested on Saturday night, around 7 pm, was allegedly involved in depositing a hand grenade in a makeshift camp of non-Manipuri labourers at Andro Santhei Park on the intervening night of June 2 and 3, the police further said.

The police alleged that the person was involved in the transportation of arms used in the shooting to death of the non-Manipuri at Uchol Chingjin on July 8 last.
