Imphal: A local court in Imphal has granted interim anticipatory bail to president of Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC), Ningthoujam Popilal.
The police have been searching to arrest Popilal in connection with a case registered at Lamphel police station of Imphal West district. The case was related with the brutal assault of BJYM Manipur unit’s spokesperson Mayanglambam Suresh Kumar and BJYM office secretary Alex Ningombam at gunpoint by miscreants on the night of February 9 at Langol area under Lamphel police station of Imphal West district.

The court of Imphal West session judge on Thursday granted the interim anticipatory bail to Popilal. He filed an anticipatory bail application under section 148 CrPC.
During the hearing of the application on February 16, the counsel of the Popilal submitted that the family of the petitioner is in deep sorrow after his grandmother died on February 14 and the petitioner has to attend all the ritual ceremonies of his late grandmother.
In view of the death of his grandmother and non-availability of the detailed report of the FIR case registered against the petitioner, the court granted interim bail to Popilal.
Earlier, the court had directed the concerned Lamphel police station to submit the details of the FIR case registered against Popilal on or before February 16.

The police, however, did not submit the details on the day. Instead, the police, through the public prosecutor, requested the court to fix another date to submit the detailed report of the FIR case.
In case of arrest of the petitioner in connection with the FIR, he should be released on interim bail on furnishing of PR bond of Rs 30,000 with one surety of the like amount, the court stated.
The court further directed the petitioner (Popilal) to cooperate with the police investigating the case while making him to avail before the investigation authority whenever needed.
He should also not influence prosecution witnesses and not leave the state without prior permission of the court, the order granting interim anticipatory bail to the MPYCC president stated.
