“In a significant breakthrough in our war on drugs, Senapati police, Forest Department, and district administration have destroyed 4.8 hectares of illicit poppy cultivation at Kangjang Hills, Senapati,” stated Chief Minister N Biren Singh on social media on Wednesday.

The Manipur Chief Minister stated, “I appreciate the teams for their dedication and efforts. The fight against drugs is not just a law enforcement effort but a collective responsibility. I urge all citizens to stand with us in building a drug-free, healthier, and more prosperous Manipur.”

On January 27, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh along with police personnel oversaw the destruction of over 314 kg of drugs in an incinerator at Lamdeng in Imphal West.

The seized drugs included 9.844 kg of heroin, 244.409 kg of brown sugar, 505 gm of pseudoephedrine, and 32.280 kg of cannabis.

At the event, the Chief Minister vowed that his government would continue the war on drugs campaign until the menace is completely rooted out from the state.

Biren also stated that some drug mafias, taking excessive advantage of the current crisis and the resulting law and order situation, have been carrying out massive poppy cultivation in some hill areas.
