Poppy Destroyed at Mullam and Shongphel Range

Ukhrul: Continuing the poppy destruction drive, a joint team of Ukhrul District Police, NAB, Ukhrul Forest Division and 6th Manipur Rifles on Thursday carried out destruction of illicit poppy cultivation at Mullam and Shongphel hill range under Litan Police Station.

According to Ukhrul Police, the combine team destroyed around 20 acres area of poppy cultivation at the Mullam and Shongphel hill range.

Around 60 persons took part in the drive taken up today. Due to the rough terrain and with just a few manpower at their disposal, the joint team had to carry grass cutter, sprayer, drinking water and other necessary equipments. Poppy plant which are ready for harvest was destroyed by using grass cutter and sticks and and roundup herbicides were sprayed to the newly mushrooming plant. Several huts and other amenities were also destroyed by the joint team.
