Chandel, August 12: Chairman of the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR), Keisam Pradipkumar on Tuesday stated that though there is a need for rules, norms, guidelines and regulations with regards to anti-ragging and bullying, it must start from each of us to put an end to such.
He was addressing a One-Day Sensitisation Programme on “Anti-Ragging and Bullying” held at Jawahar Navodaya vidyalaya, Chandel. The event was jointly organised by Centre olfor Women and Girls with Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR).
The chairman of the commission told the gathering of students and staff of the institute and those present at the event that ragging and bullying can be in many forms. Therefore, it is vital for all to understand such and help in the fight against ragging and bullying, he added.

Mothil Saka, Executive Magistrate, SDC, Chandel district headquarters, who came on lieu of L. Nandakumar, IAS, DC Chandel, recalled of incidents related to ragging and bullying in schools and colleges. He narrated how seniors ragged and bullied juniors in various ways by making them do their works or personal chores.
He called on the students to report such to the staff or the concerned authorities so that action would take against such perpetrators.
Hechin Haokip, Executive Director of Centre for Women and Girls, giving the keynote address, informed that across 1946 colleges, there were more than 3100 cases of ragging and bullying between 2022-24. Adding that most of these cases are from medical and engineering colleges, Hechin Haokip stated that such incidents have created a very volatile and unfavorable environment for students.
Maintaining that such incidents create a dangerous and unsafe environment for students to study, she called on those present at the event to create a safe and sound environment for students.

Md. Habibur Rahaman, Member, MCPCR also shared on various ways to fight against and stop ragging and bullying, especially in schools and colleges.
During the technical session, Advocate Th. Rajkishore, Legal Consultant of MCPCR spoke on “Prohibition and Eradication of Ragging Act, 2019”.
Dr. Amarson Snakhil, Principal, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Chandel expressed his gratitude and thanked the resource persons of the day for their valuable inputs and insights into anti-ragging and bullying, which he believed, will help the students in their lives and in removing ragging and bullying.
