New Delhi, July 16: Senior IAS officer Puneet Kumar Goel has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Manipur. His appointment was approved by the central government on July 15, 2025, cutting short his central deputation. He will serve in the role until his retirement on August 31, 2026.

Goel, a 1991-batch officer of the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre, he steps into the state’s top administrative post at a time when Manipur continues to grapple with complex governance and recovery challenges. His appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, as a special case with a relaxation of existing policy norms.
