Ukhrul: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Member of Rajya Sabha from Nagaland S. Phangnon Konyak has alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s behavior during a peaceful protest on Thursday hurt her dignity and self-esteem. In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Konyak accused Gandhi of misbehavior and making her feel uncomfortable while she was participating in the protest.

Konyak, who became the first woman to be elected as a Member of Rajya Sabha from Nagaland in 2022, was protesting against what she called “atrocities committed by the Congress Party” against Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. She stated in her letter that while holding a placard near the Makar Dwaar staircase, security personnel had cordoned off a passage for MPs. However, she alleged that Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by other party members, ignored the pathway and came directly in front of her.
According to Konyak, Gandhi misbehaved with her in a loud voice and stood so close to her that she felt “extremely uncomfortable.” As a woman and a member of the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community, Konyak wrote that the incident deeply hurt her dignity and self-esteem. “I stepped aside with a heavy heart, denouncing my democratic rights, but felt that no Member of Parliament should behave this way,” she wrote.

Seeking the intervention of the Rajya Sabha Chairman, Konyak emphasized the need for protection and accountability. “I belong to the ST community of Nagaland and am a lady member. My dignity and self-esteem have been deeply hurt by LoP Shri Rahul Gandhi Ji,” her letter stated.
