Tangshang Naga Students’ Union Condemns Hongbei Incident; Demands Fair, Transparent Enquiry

UKHRUL: The Tangshang Naga Students’ Union (TNSU), Nagaland, strongly condemns the ambush that took place at Hongbei village junction on March 28, 2026, resulting in the loss of four Naga Army personnel. The victims, belonging to the NSCN-IM Eastern Flank, included Major Sochipem Phungshok, Sergeant Maior Zairay Vasah, Sergeant Bahnlei Ahlapya, and Sergeant Thansomi Washi.

TNSU mourns the loss of the fallen personnel, including our brother Sergeant Bahnlei Ahlapya, a respected son of the Tangshang Naga community from Eastern Nagaland who lost his life alongside his colleagues, the condemnation read.

Further, the TNSU, cautioning that such developments may affect the fragile peace in Nagalim, appeals to all concerned, including the NSCN-IM Eastern Flank leadership, to exercise restraint, avoid escalation, and continue to prioritize dialogue and mutual understanding in the interest of unity and peace.

“TNSU views this as a matter of concern for peace and stability in the region. We call for a fair and transparent inquiry to ascertain the facts and ensure accountability in accordance with due process”, the student body said while demanding justice for the victims.

In conclusion, the Tangshang student body extends its sincere condolences and prayers to the bereaved families during this difficult time. Also, it appeals for collective efforts to maintain harmony and work towards lasting peace.
