As per the Tangkhul Naga Tribe mythology, denial of the facts as well as concocting the God created genealogical facts (History) is believed to be inviting a curse. Our Tangkhul Naga ancestors/forefathers without any twist/diversion from the orally taught, narrated and shared historical or genealogical facts by their elders/fathers have handed down the same traditions in terms of mythology and customary practices including family and clan’s bloodline. And when one knowingly denies his blood brother to be of not his, then comes the curse.
The Tangkhul Zimik clan’s genealogical and mythological research work started in the year 1950 with the following persons as the research committee:
1) AS Lungshi, Hungpung
2) Khusun, Kharasom
3) Z. Hepho, Kachauphung
4) AS Vasai, Hungpung,
5) Z Marasan, Tolloi
6) ZV Ngashunlei, Sirarakhong
The research committee was formed during the time when A.S. Ralo was the King (Headman) of Hungpung village. And the same research work continued even after A.S. Wungnaoyo Zimik ascended the throne in 1955. There Exist many practical evidences including documents, monoliths etc. to substantiate the proven facts that A.S. Wungnaoyo Zimik had ruled Hungpung village with the surname “Zimik” till his last breath in 2008.
The surname “Zimik” has not been simply embraces to gain any material benefits. We, the younger generations by recognising and respecting the arduous efforts put in by our elders/fathers in the search of the genealogical history, have accordingly followed the true path with all the rights and consciousness which no one has the right to distort it.
Further, clarified that the name of the Hungpung Headman A.S. Wungngayung Peter was asked to be removed from the Tangkhul Zimik clan Headman’s list by himself as he has not enrolled with the clan. But he never had mentioned on having or not having any blood ties with the Tangkhul or Hungpung Zimik clan. The secretary of the Tangkhul Zimik clan had accordingly made a clarification in the Sangai Newspaper on dated 20/03/2025 and apologised for the insertion in the list. But nowhere had the two parties mentioned or declared on the having or not having of the blood relationship.
It is also pertinent to clarify that the acronym HAO (Hungpung Ahungshi Organisation) confining within the King’s clan is comprised of only the Shimray (elder) and Shimrah (younger) brothers family lineage. And the purpose of having such in organisational is purely for social and cultural upliftment. Hence, the authority of deciding or ascertaining on the genealogical existence of a certain clan or surname in Hungpung village does not lie with the HAO. But the power and the authority to discuss, decide and ascertain on the same matter solely lies in the hands of the apex body i.e. Village Authority of the Hungpung village which is represented by 32 Pipas by virtue of being the eldest (Head) of each Clan.

Hence, the statement of not having Zimik clan within HAO does not have any customary or legal validity. Their only ulterior motive was to defame the Hungpung Zimik clan but without any basis.
Moreover, since time immemorial, the historical and genealogical brotherhood of the Thangal (eldest), Hungpung (Second Son) and the Meitei (youngest) have been preserved and in existence without any disputes from any quarter. The footprints and the names imprinted on the erected stone slap substantiate the blood ties of the three brothers in which the name Abung Thangal is clearly mentioned, whereas the name Khongrei/Khongdei as the eldest of the three brothers is foreign to our Hungpung, Thangal and Meitei genealogical history. And the claim that the Khongdei’s King’s daughter giving birth to triune son and becoming a King or head of a village/tribe is totally contrary to our Naga customary and traditional practices. For, we the Nagas being a patriarchal society can inherit the father’s property or titleship only by a son in his male progeny and not by the daughter’s son, whatsoever.
Also, when we are to interpret in Tangkhul dialect, “Ahungshi” simply means the king’s clan.
Whereas “Hungshi” means “red” which indicates colour. Then, will it be logical to denote and interpret Hungshi (colour) as the king’s clan?
Not only in Hungpung Village but in the whole Tangkhul naga villages there exist no historical name used and known by the word “Hungshi” as a clan.
It’s been only 4 or 5 years back that we have heard of about Hungshi clan being in existence in our society.
We don’t object nor interfere to any persons or clan doing research on his/their genealogical bloodline. But it is unwise and unethical to interfere in others genealogical historical facts.
Because, we don’t ask anyone to do research for our firmly ascertained facts.
This strong rebuttal press statement is therefore being given out through press and media to make the citizens of Manipur aware on the genealogical facts and figures in order to avoid further confusion and distortion on the God given historical and genealogical facts by unscrupulous groups/individuals or gangs.
This clarification has been made in Public Interest.
The rebuttal is issued on June 27, 2025, Signed by:
