Ukhrul: Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, Kengoo Zuringla who is also the chairman of UDCRMS on Thursday inaugurated REC Multipurpose cum Indoor Stadium at Somdal village under LM Block, Ukhrul District, Manipur.

Somdal village is about 45km away from Ukhrul Headquarters. Rev Aping Khamrang, Pastor of Somdal Baptist Church performed the act of dedication and blessing, which was followed by unveiling of the plaque and ribbon cutting by Kengoo Zuringla in the presence of SP of Ukhrul, Ningshem Vashum, RVS Phungnang, Headman of Somdal, Apam Shimray, Chairman of Somdal, SDO of LM Block, Rohini Kumar, DPD UDCRMS Lily Rose Jajo, Headman and village Chairman of neighbouring villages.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Kengoo Zuringla stated that “the project is sponsored by Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd, and further expressed gratitude to REC for reposing trust to UDCRMS for implementation of this sport infrastructure in Ukhrul district. Our people have to adapt with the changing world and appeal the youngsters to take advantage of these facilities to pursue their profession by utilising their sporting talents.”

SP of Ukhrul, Ningshem Vashum exuded hope that the new Indoor stadium will provide an avenue to tap talents, help groom, nurture and ensure them to compete at higher levels.

Lily Rose Jajo, District Project Director of UDCRMS highlighted the activities and the project implemented in Ukhrul district. She also mentioned livelihood support activities of UDCRMS, Farmers Producers Organisation (FPO) were set up in the district to promote local products and provide marketing prospect.

According to Headman of Somdal, RVS Phungnang, this Indoor stadium was the first sport infrastructure in the whole of western Tangkhul villages of Ukhrul. Meanwhile a memorandum for construction Sport hostel in the village was submitted to visiting District Administrator Kengoo by Chairman of Somdal, Apam Shimray.

The Multipurpose cum Indoor Stadium was officially handed over to Somdal village authority for management and maintenance of the sport infrastructure. The building has three badminton court. The project was constructed at a total cost of Rs. 4.1O crore was funded by Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd under CSR arm, implemented by Ukhrul district Community Resource Management Society, Ukhrul.
