UKHRUL: The Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM) on Monday condemned what it described as an “unprovoked, brutal and cowardly ambush” on Rongmei Naga Village Guards at Charoi Pandongba-1 and appealed to the government to urgently locate and rescue a missing village guard.

The RNCM alleged that the village guards were attacked while engaged in the routine task of collecting firewood for their households. The organisation claimed the guards were targeted in a “calculated and malicious attack” and expressed concern over what it described as emerging reports and visual evidence suggesting possible collusion in the incident.
According to the RNCM, one village guard, identified as Chunjanglung Panmei, approximately 57 years old, remains missing following the attack. The council said his whereabouts were unknown at the time of issuing the statement and urged the authorities to deploy all necessary resources to ensure his safe rescue.
“The RNCM views this assault not just as a breach of peace, but as a direct threat to the existence and security of our people,” it added.

The Rongmei organisation further asserted that the patience of the Naga people should not be mistaken for weakness and warned that attempts to disturb peace, encroach upon ancestral lands, or harm Naga citizens would be resisted.
Calling for wider support, the council appealed to civil society organisations and peace-loving citizens to condemn the incident and stand in solidarity with the affected families.
