In yet another road mishap, a Shaktimaan truck driver died on the spot while ferrying the fully loaded round bean following sudden technical breakdown.
The deceased was identified as SK. Shinmi aged 32 son of SK. Kapo, a resident of Chingjaroi Khullen in North of Ukhrul district. One of the loaders got minor cuts on the forehead while trying to escape, while four of them escaped unhurt.
The deceased was survived by his pregnant wife and two young sons.
On that fateful evening, six of them including the driver went to collect round bean at their village forest side but just before reaching the plain area, on its way back home, it developed a technical snag amidst the fully loaded beans and sped backward.
Meanwhile RK. Sothing, a close relative of late Shinmi informed Ukhrul Times that the driver had every chance to escape on that fateful night. He was heard telling other passengers to escaped saying the vehicle had developed a technical problem.
To avoid bad fall, the driver hit the nearby standing tree. However the impact of the fully-loaded truck was so much so that the tree couldn’t withstand the impact and rolled down the deep gorge, he added.
Death and injuries from road accident has increased in recent months and therefore the need to launch intensive and extensive awareness campaign on road safety needs to be taken up on war footing at the earliest so that more lives is safe and road accident is prevented.
The accident occurred at around 11 pm.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased thanked CYO, Chingjaroi Khullen Youths, and Chingjaroi Khullen Driver union for extending their helping hands during this moment of grief and pain.
