Tamenglong: The Rongmei Naga Council Manipur – Ntayphay Luangrian has announced it will impose a flash bandh on National Highway 37 and Tongjei Maril Road, starting from midnight of August 4 to August 5, 2024. It said that education, medical services, PHED, electricity, religious activities, and other essential services will be exempted during the period of the agitation.
In a press statement issued on Friday, the Rongmei Naga body said “the Rongmei Civil Society Organization of Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts has been compelled to declare a flash bandh as a means of democratic protest and agitation.”

“As a response to the non-compliance with several memoranda submitted to the Honourable Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, the Government of Manipur, on various occasions, dated 23rd December 2023 and 15th June 2024, seeking administrative convenience for Rongmei villages under Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts to be included in Noney district, an ultimatum was issued on 8th July 2024 to expedite and implement these demands,” Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (Ntayphay Luangrian) said.
Further, the Rongmei body said that despite their several submissions, the state government, it said, failed to meet the expectations of the people, adding that “the Rongmei villages in these two districts are once again urging the state government to honor and respect the aspirations of the people, who have been economically and politically marginalized by majority communities.”
“The Rongmei Naga Council Manipur – Ntayphay Luangrian, the torchbearer of this movement, appeals for cooperation from various like-minded civil society organizations to support this movement in the larger interest of the people, especially the Rongmei villages of Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts,” the statement added.
