RPI(Athawale) National Secretary Calls for Urgent Resolution to Manipur Crisis

Imphal, April 21: Maheshwar Thounaojam, the National Secretary of the Republican Party of India (Athawale) and president of the party’s Manipur state unit, has urgently called for a united effort to resolve the ongoing crisis in Manipur, which is now nearing its second year.

Speaking as the chief guest at a public meeting organised by Moirangkampu Social Economy at Puribi Puraba Laibung community hall in Imphal, he said, “It is high time that political parties, civil society organisations, and the general public come together to take a sincere and collective resolution. The crisis cannot be resolved through isolated efforts or political rhetoric.”

Maheshwar Thounaojam criticised the current restrictions imposed on Meitei individuals from entering Kuki-dominated areas, particularly religious sites such as Mount Koubru and Mount Thangjing, describing the situation as an attack on religious freedom and the indigenous rights of the Meitei people.

Calling for strong and decisive measures, he stressed the need for a firm crackdown on Kuki militant groups. “There is no point in holding peace talks with Kuki civil society organisations who are hand-in-glove with armed terrorists. What we need now is decisive action. National security and the rule of law must prevail over vote-bank politics,” he added.
