Ukhrul, Mar 20: In a synergized effort to make it a calendar event for Chandel sporting season, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with District Sports Association (DSA) Chandel, Wisecrabs, Lakshya Academy and REACHA foundation, Chandel District Administration, Chandel Police, and Medical Department Chandel organized the 4th edition of “Run Chandel Run” 2025 marathon on 15 March 2025.
The event was held under “Chandel Runs for Peace and Unity,” uniting people in Chandel and spreading the message of peace to the entire state. It was organized to spread the message of peaceful co-existence and to promote fitness, health, and well-being amongst the local populace, especially the youth. Also, it gave opportunity to the community to come together to support a noble cause.

Brigadier Robeen Chatterjee, Deputy Inspector General,26 Sector Assam Rifles flagged off the marathon. Emphasizing that sporting events like the Marathon bring together people from all walks of life, he encouraged everyone to make physical activity a part of their daily fitness regime.
The event saw about 800 runners including students, athletes, troops of Assam Rifles, Chandel Police, Manipur Rifles, and fitness enthusiasts gallop through the picturesque streets of Chandel. It was categorized into four groups, Below 16 Years Boys and Girls, Open Category Male and Female, Above 45 Years Dream Run, and 12 Km Open Category Cross Country. Brigadier Robeen Chatterjee, DIG HQ 26 Sector Assam Rifles, and Colonel Amit Mane, Commandant 21 Assam Rifles fuelled motivation in the marathon by their participation. The run concluded at Maha Union Govt Higher Secondary School.
In his closing remarks, Brigadier Robeen Chatterjee, DIG 26 Sector Assam Rifles thanked all the participants of Chandel for their enthusiasm and dedication to the cause and hoped that the message of the marathon reaches far and wide and inspires people to have peaceful coexistence among different communities. Reiterating Assam Rifles’ commitment to bringing together all the communities together and adopting fitness and healthy living among the citizens of Manipur, he urged everyone to join hands in bringing normalcy and peace to the state.

The organizers and local populace provided the runners with water stations enroute and refreshments post-run. Medical cover throughout the route was provided by Assam Rifles. The event also witnessed local artists showcasing their talent at the Closing Ceremony.
The winners of the event are as follows:
In the U-16 boys category, KL Changde, Goodphangam Monsang, and Sheltering secured the first, second, and third positions respectively.
In the girl’s category, M Thadoi Chanu claimed the top position, with Khiringrang and Nengneil-hang finishing second and third, respectively.
For the Dream Run, in the male category, ST Kosen emerged victorious, with Par-pa John and Khulvar Rengthlung taking second and third places. In the women’s category, Th Shila Devi and D Alina Lamkang secured first and second positions.
In the open 5km race, the male category was led by Sumjirkhup Aimol, followed by Kashudlung Newmei in second place and Calvin Singh in third. On the female side, Th Ranjita secured first place, with Sarita and Chantha Maku finishing second and third, respectively.
For the 12km Open category, the male winners were Deko in first place, W Strongman in second, and Md Badaruddin in third.
Among the female competitors, Manisha Teshipun clinched the top spot, while Caroline Lamkang and Pipakhurim Dangshawa finished second and third, respectively.
