All women polling teams condemns bomb attack on polls day

Ukhrul: Women polling teams of 43-phungyar AC, 44-Ukhrul (ST) AC and 45-Chingai (ST) AC expressed their grief and condemnation against the tragic polling incident that occurred on March 5 at Khampasom polling station.

Following the tragic polling incident, where a molotov cocktail petrol bomb was hurled into a vehicle in which women polling personnel were seated for proceeding towards the strong room at the mini secretariat, Ukhrul, the exclusive All women polling teams deputed to over 40 polling stations in Ukhrul AC, Chingai AC, and Phungyar AC has expressed their deep anguish and condemnation at the events which unfolded in almost all these polling stations on March 5.

The violent attack and unprecedented acts of force and violence have left the personnel highly traumatized and scarred for life as they suffered serious burn injuries on the face and hands during the tragic incident.

“No words are enough to describe this utterly despicable act where votes are accorded primacy over the potential loss of the lives of a mother, a wife, a daughter and a sister.”

Taking the opportunity, the Women polling teams of 43-phungyar AC, 44-Ukhrul (ST) AC and 45-Chingai (ST) AC expressed their appreciation to the police and security personnel whose prompt and timely action rescued the lives of Presiding officer, Mrs Wormichon Vashum and polling officer Premila Devi, who lost consciousness from the impact of the improvised bomb explosion, which completely burned the vehicle. It may be mentioned that they suffered serious burn injuries on the face and hands and are currently undergoing medical treatment.

“We express our deepest sympathy and support to the two of them and pray that both of them will come out strong and healthy as soon as possible.”

To ensure justice to the innocent women personnels who have suffered the deadly burns and experienced harrowing memories while on duty, The Women polling teams of 43 phungyar AC, 44 ukhrul A/C and 45 chingai A/C has urged upon the Government and election commission to take cognisance of this heinous and inhumane act of crime and immediately initiate legal proceedings and punish the perpetrators of the crime with a fitting punishment.
