UKHRUL: The investigation into the twin explosions that struck Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Monday has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), officials said on Tuesday.
Manipur Police confirmed that the case has been forwarded for a detailed probe, adding that intensified search and combing operations are underway in surrounding areas. Security has also been tightened to prevent any further escalation, while efforts continue to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The blasts, suspected to involve improvised explosive devices (IEDs), occurred near an abandoned house in Saiton village under Phougakchao Ikhai police station limits. Police sources said the first explosion took place between 5 am and 6 am inside an abandoned house.

Two more explosions followed shortly, including one about 200 metres away, injuring two civilians—Soibam Sanatomba Singh (52) and Nongthombam Indubala Devi (37). Both sustained splinter injuries and are undergoing treatment at Bishnupur District Hospital, where they are reported to be out of danger.
The incident triggered protests, with several civil society and student organisations initially calling for a 24-hour statewide shutdown, which was later withdrawn. Residents accused security forces of failing to prevent the attack despite heavy deployment, while Meitei villagers alleged the involvement of Kuki groups.
The Kuki Zo Council condemned the blast and urged authorities to ensure security. The situation remains tense in the border areas, even as Manipur continues under President’s Rule imposed in February 2025.
