Kohima, October 8: The School of Nursing, Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) celebrated its platinum jubilee on October 8 at Molu Ki, Merhulietsa Colony (Paramedical), under the theme “Nurturing Nurses, Transforming Lives: Celebrating a Legacy.”

P. Paiwang Konyak, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, served as the chief guest, releasing a commemorative souvenir and addressing the gathering. He recognized the evolving healthcare landscape and emphasized the critical role of nurses as the “heartbeat of care,” offering not only medical assistance but also emotional support and hope.

Minister Konyak highlighted the School of Nursing’s contribution in developing essential nursing skills and informed the audience about the Central Government’s approval of two new nursing colleges attached to medical colleges—one at the Nagaland Institute of Medical Science & Research (NIMSR) in Kohima and another at the upcoming Mon Medical College. These initiatives aim to address the shortage of healthcare professionals and improve nursing education in Nagaland.

Existing schools in Kohima, Mokokchung, and Tuensang have been pivotal in training skilled nurses.

Additionally, the Minister discussed plans to fill vacant staff nurse positions under a recruitment policy similar to the one for Auxiliary Nurse Midwives and Female Health Workers, balancing direct recruitment with a queue-based appointment system.

Minister Konyak encouraged nurses to expand their roles beyond hospitals into home care and palliative care, highlighting the importance of embracing technology and upholding ethical standards, particularly regarding data security and patient confidentiality.
