Ukhrul, July 3: The Manipur State Power Company Limited (MSPCL) has reported the theft of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) cables along the 132KV Yaingangpokpi–Hundung transmission line in Mongkot Chepu area on the evening of June 29.
This is the second such incident reported in the area, MSPCL has said.
The Manager of Transmission Sub Division-VIII, MSPCL in a press release warned that the theft could lead to disruptions in both power and internet services in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts. The OPGW cables, which are critical for both power transmission and data communication, are mounted on high-voltage towers. The incident has also resulted in substantial financial losses due to service outage and the costs of repair and maintenance.

An FIR has been registered at the Litan Police Station, and the company has urged the public to assist by reporting any information related to the theft. MSPCL appealed to residents to remain vigilant and support authorities in recovering the stolen cables to ensure uninterrupted power and internet supply in the region.
