Kuki Chiefs’ Assn Bans Manipur Govt Activities in Kuki-Zo Areas of Kangpokpi Dist

Ukhrul, July 3: The Sadar Hills Chiefs’ Association (SAHILCA) has issued a strong directive barring all government-initiated activities and programs in Kuki-Zo inhabited areas of Kangpokpi district, citing the ongoing violent conflict in Manipur.

SAHILCA in a press release on Wednesday declared a complete ban on all activities undertaken by the Forest Department of the Government of Manipur within the district. The association instructed the department to immediately halt all operations in the region.

Further, SAHILCA opposed any governmental programs or initiatives in Kuki-Zo areas of Kangpokpi district, stating that such activities should not resume until the present conflict in the state is peacefully resolved.

The Kuki Chiefs’ Assn also stressed the need to maintain peace and avoid actions that could exacerbate tensions in the region.

The directive also extended to the district administration, with SAHILCA instructing the Deputy Commissioner and Sub-Divisional Officers not to carry out the state government’s “Go to Hills” and “Go to Villages” programs in the affected areas until further notice.
