Senapati, September 4: The Naga People’s Organisation (NPO), Senapati District Women’s Association (SDWA), and Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA), in a joint press statement, declared their full endorsement of the proposed Trade Embargo announced by the United Naga Council (UNC). The embargo is to be enforced across all Naga-inhabited areas, effective from midnight of September 8, 2025, in response to the impending unilateral abrogation of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and the construction of border fencing imposed across Naga homeland.

The statement noted that the UNC has repeatedly conveyed its sentiments and position to the Government of India through official memoranda, a series of agitations, demonstrations, public rallies, and numerous press statements since January 19, 2024—adopting a democratic and civil approach at every stage.
However, the continued indifferent attitude of the Government of India, it said, has compelled the UNC to resort to such a stringent form of agitation, reaffirming the firm and uncompromising stance of the Nagas against the abrogation of the FMR and the construction of border fencing, which they argue will further divide the already fragmented Naga people.

The three apex bodies of Senapati District also issued a strong directive to the general public to strictly observe and implement the agitation in their respective areas. The press release emphasized that the agitation will be rigorously enforced by all apex bodies of the district. No relaxation or exemption will be permitted at any level, it warned, except for those officially exempted by the UNC as being outside the purview of the agitation.
