Senapati District Veteran Football Tournament Concludes; Makhrelui VFC Claims Victory

Senapati, Oct 7: Makhrelui Veteran Football Club clinched the title at the 2nd Senapati District Veteran Football Tournament 2024, with Katomei Area Veteran Football Club finishing as runners-up. The tournament, which began on September 25, featured 19 teams from across the district and was organized by the Senapati District Veteran Football Association in collaboration with the Senapati District Olympic Association, Manipur (SDOAM).

The closing ceremony was attended by special guests Boveio Poukai Duo, CAO of Shepoumaramth Region, GPRN, and YK Achan Thangal, Deputy Kilonser, EO of Maram-Thangal Region, GPRN. Boveio Poukai Duo praised the introduction of the AstroTurf ground in Senapati, which has significantly boosted football enthusiasm in the district. He congratulated both teams and emphasized the importance of unity and brotherhood fostered through the tournament. He encouraged players to maintain their sportsmanship and maturity.

YK Achan Thangal highlighted that the association was established to promote healthy living and aging gracefully, reminding the veterans of their ongoing contribution to sports and youth inspiration.

The final match saw Makhrelui VFC secure a 1-0 victory over Katomei Area VFC, with the decisive goal scored in the second half. Several individual awards were also presented: Treson of Makhrelui VFC received the Golden Boot, Lameo of Makhrelui VFC the Golden Glove, SH. Robert of Makhrelui VFC the Man of the Tournament, SH. Victor of Makhrelui VFC the Best Defender, Israel of Katomei Area VFC the Best Midfielder, T. Ngouning of Oklong VFC the Oldest Player, and Southern Naga VFC the Best Disciplined Team.
