Senapati is a Peaceful District; NPO Restricts Combing Operations by Army/Police

Senapati, June 30: While stating that Senapati is a peaceful district amidst communal unrest persisted for more than a year, the Naga People’s Organization (NPO) has categorially restricted combing operations in and around the district. This information was issued from the Information & Publicity Wing of the NPO on Sunday.

It should be noted that the Naga People’s Organization (NPO), Tahamzam (Senapati), in its Presidential meeting, resolved not to allow any form of military combing operations by the Army, CRPF, Manipur Rifles, or Police in Senapati District. The organization stated that the district has remained peaceful as the Nagas have positioned themselves as neutral in the current conflict between the Meitei and the Kuki-Zo communities. Any attempt to involve the people of the district will be seen as inviting the wrath of the community.

The ongoing combing operations by the Army, CRPF, Manipur Rifles, and Police in and around the villages of the district are deemed unnecessary. As the gateway to Manipur, the NPO stated that the people of the district have gone the extra mile to support all communities, ensuring no one feels unwanted by providing logistical support and fostering a safe and welcoming environment. Military combing operations in a peaceful district could create a war-like situation, instilling fear in the public and disturbing the harmonious atmosphere.

The NPO also appealed to all village Chairmen and Secretaries to be mindful of activities carried out by various agencies that could be detrimental to peace and a progressive society. Failure to comply with this directive may compel the organization to undertake agitation plans, for which the State Government, District Administration, and military forces will be held responsible, the release said.
