SENAPATI: In connection with the TMT-laden truck arson case that occurred at Kabinam village in Senapati district along NH-2 on March 2, a key accused has been identified and arrested on Friday.
The accused, identified as Ramayo Vashum (51), was apprehended following developments led by Officer-in-Charge, Senapati, Shivin, IPS. Acting on credible technical inputs, two teams led by the SDPO, Senapati and the Special Operation Team conducted a raid at the accused’s hideout at Kathiko Karong in Senapati, from where he was arrested.
During the arrest, two mobile phones suspected to have been used for coordinating the offence were seized. Following the interrogation of the accused, the vehicle allegedly used to reach the arson site was also traced and recovered. Police stated that the movement of the vehicle was corroborated with CCTV footage obtained from near the scene of the crime.
The seized items include a Gypsy bearing registration number MN08 A 0099 and a Vivo Y200 mobile phone. In a statement, Senapati Police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the other accused persons involved in the incident. The arrest, police added, reflects the authorities’ focus on thoroughly investigating the case and maintaining law and order in the region.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Information and Publicity of the NSCN/GPRN issued a clarification stating that it had come to their notice that Ramayo Vashum was arrested by Senapati Police in connection with the TMT-laden truck arson incident at Kabinam village along NH-2.
The organisation stated that the accused was formerly a Major in the Naga Army but was given forced retirement in 2022 due to misconduct unbecoming of his position. Expressing regret over his alleged involvement in such anti-social activities, the NSCN/GPRN stated that the incident was entirely his personal action and had no connection whatsoever with the organisation or the government.
