Senapati, September 26: The Senapati District Truck Owners Association and the Senapati District Truck Drivers Union called a lightning steering down along NH-2 after Sapormeina Police allegedly arrested a truck driver at an unauthorized checkpoint located about 200–300 meters from the official police gate.

The driver, identified as Ashepri David of Tungjoy village, was allegedly assaulted—beaten, kicked and punched—before being taken into custody. The arrest was reportedly made without an arrest memo, and the driver remains in police custody, the truck bodies said. The incident occurred around 5:30 AM today, and the steering down agitation began immediately after the news spread.
In protest against what they termed an “unlawful act,” the Senapati District Truck Drivers Union and the Senapati District Truck Owners Association jointly declared a lightning strike and launched a steering down agitation with immediate effect.

The two truck bodies further warned that they may be compelled to intensify the agitation if an amicable solution is not reached at the earliest.
