Shanao Long offices inaugurated at border villages Tusom and Khamasom Wallely

Ukhrul: In a press statement issued by the Assam Rifles, brigadier Vaibhav Shinde, DIG HQ 10 Sector Assam Rifles & Col Manoj Shinde, Commandant 35 Assam Rifles inaugurated Shanao Long offices at border villages, Tusom & Khamasom Wallely, Ukhrul District on Tuesday.

The offices were constructed by Somsai Battalion under the aegis of IGAR (South) on the request of Tusom and Khamasom Shanao Long (women organisation) members and villagers.

“The border villages were facing problems in organising meetings/social gatherings and hence the villagers projected its requirement to HQ 10 Sector and Somsai Battalion,” said Inspector General Assam Rifles in the press release.

The assistance was given to the Shanao Long of both the villages as humanitarian aid and to promote women empowerment by the Assam Rifles.

Approximately 350 villagers from both the villages attended the inaugural function, according to the statement. The villagers of Khamasom & Tusom village appreciated the initiative taken by Assam Rifles to empower the women of remote border villages.
