Shillong: One arrested for assaulting Ranji cricketer

Shillong: One of the members of a group involved in assaulting a Ranji cricket player was arrested on Thursday.

East Khasi Hills district police chief, Sylvester Nongtnger in a statement today informed that Lakhan Singh, a Ranji cricket player was assaulted by a group of miscreants near Anjalee Cinema Hall while he was on his way to Jhalupara on October 4.

As per FIR filed with the cantonment beat house, one car overtook his scooty and asked him to stop after which some miscreants came out of the car and started assaulting him. As a result of that, he sustained minor injuries to his face.

A case was registered with the Sadar police station. Nongtnger said one has been arrested on Thursday and has been produced in court after police custody.

Efforts are on to nab the others involved, he said.
