Shirui–Kachaophung Road Blocked Amid AR Convoy Movement

KAMJONG: Following an alleged movement of the Assam Rifles (AR) in Mapum village area, Kamjong district, villagers of the area have blocked the Shirui-Kachaophung road.

Reliable sources stated that an Assam Rifles convoy of approximately 47 personnel from Somsai entered the AR outpost in Mapum village on Monday. Acting on the information that they were heading to the Indo-Myanmar border, the villagers subsequently resorted to cutting off the road to block their movement.
Sources said the villagers took the step in view of the prevailing situation in the state, adding that the movement of a large contingent of Assam Rifles personnel had caused apprehension among residents. The sources further claimed that the personnel gave varying accounts of their intended destination, while maintaining they would proceed toward the border.

Following the standoff, villagers temporarily blocked the road connecting Shirui and Kachaophung to prevent the convoy from moving further. The road, constructed under PMGSY, serves as a lifeline for several villages in the region, including Zingsui, Chattric, Ronshak, Sahamphung, Roni, Motoya, Chamu, H. Kaphung, Khayang, Phungtha, Kachaophung and Langkhe.
