Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated a 10 meter indoor precision shooting range at Demthring Lumjingsuk in Shillong on Wednesday, in the presence of Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh and members of the Shooting Association of Meghalaya.

Sangma said that the shooting range is a small step towards creating better infrastructure for the development of the sport in the state and such facilities will greatly encourage more young people to follow their passion and aid existing sports shooters to hone their skills in the sport.

“I congratulate the Shooting Association of Meghalaya for this milestone. It’s an effort that has been put in by all of you and it just shows the kind of passion that all of you share for this sport. If you take into consideration the entire North East, the youth from our state are especially talented when it comes to shooting and we can really push this to make it a competitive sport that our youth can excel in”, he said.

Highlighting the importance of sports in the overall growth and development of children and young people Sangma said, “I’ve always been a strong believer that sports is a very important aspect of growth and development of a person and it extends well beyond just physical benefits. It inculcates good qualities of discipline, hard work and focus in us making us more productive and transforming us into a better person”.

Stating that the youth of the state are naturally talented and gifted, the Chief Minister also said that the government has embarked on a mission to give adequate thrust to youth centric programmes and policies to create opportunities and help young people realise their full potential in activities concerning various fields.
