Churachandpur, September 23: The International Day of Sign Language was observed today at Rayburn College’s Auditorium, Gangpimual, Churachandpur District, under the initiative of the Centre for Community Initiative (CCI) in collaboration with Rayburn College.
The programme was hosted by Lily C. Tangpua, Clinical Psychologist at The Malsawm Initiative (TMI). In her address, TMI’s Principal and Speech Therapist, Sangi, spoke on disability and highlighted the importance of observing the International Day of Sign Language.

Adding a special touch to the event, TMI Class X student Kholching interpreted the proceedings in sign language for participants. The audience was also moved by the performance of BandAbles, a newly formed music band of visually handicapped members, who showcased their talent and won hearts with their music.
One of the most memorable moments of the day was the release of the music video “Hihtheihdan tuam chiat” (translated as “Differently Abled”). The video was launched by Rev. Dr. Khen P. Tombing, Principal of Rayburn Autonomous College. The song was performed by TMI Class X student Khumlalven alongside Chingnunhoih Guite and composed by CCI Director Pauzagin Tonsing.

TMI, run under CCI, has been a major centre for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Churachandpur District, with its school located at Pearsonmun.
